An early pregnancy ultrasound, also called the first-trimester scan or viability scan, is usually performed between 6 and 10 weeks of pregnancy. This safe, painless test uses sound waves to confirm that the pregnancy is healthy, accurately date the pregnancy, detect the baby's heartbeat, and rule out common early complications.

Yes, ultrasound is completely safe. It uses sound waves, not radiation, and has been used in obstetrics for over 50 years with no known harmful effects. Multiple studies confirm its safety in pregnancy.
For very early scans (under 8 weeks), transvaginal ultrasound with an empty bladder gives the best images. For later scans or if only transabdominal is done, a moderately full bladder helps. Our staff will guide you when you book.
